P&C Revision Public Stakeholder Consultation Survey

Closed 30 Sep 2022

Opened 28 Jul 2022

In line with codes of good practice for voluntary standards, Better Cotton periodically reviews its Principles & Criteria.

At the end of 2021, the current revision process was launched, with the aim of strengthening the Better Cotton Principles & Criteria (P&C) to ensure they continue to meet best practice, are effective and locally-relevant, and align with Better Cotton’s 2030 strategy. The P&C v. 3.0 is expected to be released in the first half of 2023, followed by a transition year, and come fully into effect as of season 2024-25. For further information see the Revision webpage.

The public stakeholder consultation ran between 28 July and 30 September 2022.

Why your views matter

The P&C is one of the key instruments of the Better Cotton Standard System, which work together to drive the cotton sector towards a more sustainable, more equitable and climate-friendly future. The P&C sets out minimum requirements for Better Cotton that apply to more than 2 million farmers around the world. It is thus crucial that the standards reflect the needs and aspirations of all the actors involved in Better Cotton's activities.

We are looking forward to your inputs. They will help ensure that our farm-level standard remains relevant and effective to drive field-level change.

We particularly encourage the participation of stakeholders from all backgrounds, regardless of gender identity, sex characteristics, sexual orientation, age, nationality, ethnicity, language, race, class, cast, social origin, religion, belief, health, political affiliation, or other status.

This survey covers all areas of the proposed P&C.

You can navigate the survey in a flexible way, and you can freely choose both the Principles as well as the level of detail in each Principle that you want to comment on. The survey contains the following pages:

  • About you
  • General questions on the P&C as a whole
  • For each principle (you can choose which principles)
    • General questions on the Principle
    • Comments or concerns on specific indicators (you can choose which indicators)

On average, we expect the survey to take 20-45 minutes, depending on the level of feedback you provide.
